Pride Week 2022

The month of June is LGBTQ Pride Month across the whole country (& other parts of the world), as a result, CVA wanted to show our commitment and support to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, & Questioning communities.
To combat discrimination, Pride Week (20–24 June) focused on increasing students' understanding of what it means to be a part of the LGBTQ community. Miss Hodge led assemblies discussing the diversity of LGBTQ groups and what it's like to be a young person coming to terms with one's identity. During tutor time, there was also a personal development session that dealt with homophobic language. Staff members have begun wearing rainbow lanyards to show their support for LGBTQ students, and members of our student council and the "Pride & Equality Club" have been selling badges, bracelets, and bags (all of which were sold without profit).
The school has participated in a wide range of events this academic year, such as Remembrance Day, Holocaust Memorial Day, Charity Week (including Comic Relief), Sexual Health Week, Mental Health Week, and the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, and marked anniversaries of these events. We'll also participate more in Black History Month the following year (October). All of this is a part of the school's effort to enhance "education with character," which aids our youth (and local community) in improving society.
